Lost GUI after update

Hello Kaisens,

So for some reason gui has vanished after my last update. Naturally, I’ve searched the forum and came across this post:

However, no luck.

Just before, desktop notifications started to appear in some kind of an arabic font and some of the icons from the main desktop panel have disappeared. I wonder if that had anything to do with it.

I can login as usual, specifying credentials, however it’s just CLI afterwards.

startx doesn’t work.

Please help. Thank you.

Rei.

I am under the impression that it’s Missing X server or $DISPLAY scenario, but not sure what’s the best way to go about it.

@chyrei ,

Can you try this combo :

Ctrl + Alt + F7

Also, try to run

sudo kaisen-update

Also,

What was your graphical environnement ?

Ctrl + Alt + F7 doen’t do anything.
sudo kaisen-update was done prior to the GUI collapsing. Did it again just now to the same result.
I was running KDE before that.

What does

sudo apt install kaisen-kde

?

It’s asking to select default display manager: lightdm or sddm.

So select lightdm

It’s back on, thank you Niki.

I am however puzzled a little why it went away after the update.

Glad the problem is fixed.

I am sorry I can not find out why you lost you GUI.

Have a nice evening
